They decided that it would be called "The Susquehanna Singers". Domestic violence—it’s not an easy subject. No one really wants to talk about it. Fear, guilt, shame, denial , low self -esteem, feeling like you’re going crazy, hurting from the constant putdowns and name calling, and maybe hurting from a black eye or bruise…you want it to work, but the tension and the stress are almost too much to endure.
If you’re in an abusive relationship, you’re not alone. It’s common and pervasive in our society—our county, our country and the world! One in four women and one in seven men experience domestic violence in their lifetime. The good news is that there is help and there is hope. The 2015 Christmas Musical Special for the Christmas Celebration Conglomeration has been announced by Ted Bown, Director, and the title is "Light Out of Darkness” created by Randy Vader, Jay Rouse, and Rose Aspinall.
The Christmas Conglomeration Celebration (A Greater Canton Area and Troy Area community musical organization) again will be sponsored by the Canton Area Ministerial Association. The anticipated 100-voice choral group also will be featuring possible soloists, duets, trios, and ensembles. A children’s choir (grades 1 to 6) will be added later in the rehearsal schedule. The Mansfield University chapter of the Kappa Phi Club, Alpha Zeta, has been awarded the LeSourd Cup from its national organization.
First awarded in 1924, the LeSourd Cup has been awarded at the National Council of Chapters to the chapter that has demonstrated the most improvement, particularly in the areas of growth and development. This is one of three awards that can be given to an active chapter every two years. Although the evaluation criterion have been refined and broadened over the years, the six main points used in that first year that are still used today are: Reaching the constituency, Relation to the local Church, Finance, Alumnae, Local Chapter Program Books, and Candle Beam. Parker-Hannifin Retirees met for their monthly breakfast at Kelly's Creek Side Restaurant on Sept. 4. Those attending were: Front: Louie Schanbacher, Yong Babcock, Gary Dickerson, Jim Castle, Elmer Walburn. Back: Lynnette Baker, Roger Castle, Dick Turner, Marty McFall, Eustace Vanderpool. Craig Deitrich and Linda Owen had to leave before the picture could be taken. The next breakfast is Oct. 2 at 9 a.m. at Kelly's Creek Side Restaurant. Troy TOPS #986 met on September 28th at the Troy Vets Club with fifteen members weighing in. There was a total loss of 10 1/4 pounds.
Top TOPS loser was Elaine with a seven pound loss. Marilyn, who turtled, was the top KOPS loser. The South Creek Lions Club on Route 14 in Gillett will hold its 18th annual family style Halloween Party with games, refreshments, tons of fun, donuts, candy,music and dancing.
The Monthly South Creek Lions Club Community Recycling Project will be held on Saturday October 17 from 9 am until 12 noon at the Lions Hall Route 14 in Gillett. At the October recycling we will be accepting books and magazines. FYI call 570-529-2763
There will be a Costume Party and Dance on Halloween at the Troy Vets Club.
The Sons of The American Legion invite you to attend and have a great time. Cover is $5.00 per person. Snacks will be provided. The dance will be held October 31 from 9 pm to 1 am.
