Mr. Oldroyd is a native of Troy. He graduated from the Ithaca College School of Music, summa cum laude, with a degree in Music Education and Horn Performance. Mr. Oldroyd actively participated in many performance ensembles at the college and was the founding conductor of the IC Harmoniemusik and the IC Sightreading Band.
For the last seven years, Mr. Oldroyd acted as the founding conductor of the Troy Town Band and its ensembles. During the summers, he leads the Troy Swing Orchestra. Mr. Oldroyd performs frequently with bands and orchestras in Pennsylvania and Central New York and at music festivals all over the U.S. Mr. Oldroyd currently serves as the organist and choir director of the First Presbyterian Church of Troy.
The Troy Town Band features local musicians (adults, students, professionals and amateurs) who present several concerts for the community throughout the year. If you play an instrument, you are invited to join the band at rehearsals on Monday, June 15; Wednesday, June 17; Monday, June 22 and Wednesday, June 24. Rehearsals are held in the band room at the Troy Area High School Commons Building from 7 – 9 pm.
The program for the June 25 concert is titled “re-Union,” and will feature works of the North during the Civil War and the Soviet Union around the time of WWII. The public is cordially invited to the concert.
