CANTON — Canton’s Logan Route is heading to Tennessee for a karaoke competition next week.
Route found out about the competition from Reno Johnson, whom he worked with for the Monroeton Rodeo and the fire department in previous years.
“I’m excited but super nervous,” said Route, “I have never performed this far from home.”
Route had been previously eligible for a state competition in Harrisburg through the Moose Foundation, but was sad to see it cancelled due to COVID-19.
“I was sad to see that they probably won’t reschedule that,” said Route.
Travelling far from home to perform will actually be a benefit for Route, as he will have a new audience and will hopefully make some networking connections, he says.
“The exposure.. If I got to sing in downtown Nashville? Wow,” he said.
Route idolizes Luke Combs, Johnny Cash and Randy Travis. He plans to play a Travis Tritt song for the competition. He released his first original song on June 3.
The winner of the karaoke contest will win a three day, two night stay at a luxury cabin and record a four-song CD. They will also get to sing with rock star Geneva at Kid Rock’s in Nashville.
Participants of the event can enter as many times as they’d like, at just $5 an entry.
“Come have a great time singing or just watching the show every Friday night until the finals,” reads the flier on Facebook.
The finals are scheduled for July 24.
“It’s nerve racking definitely, but I am staying positive about it,” he said, “I will be happy getting more experience and more importantly, having fun.”
