As an independent publishing company, advertising costs are the majority of the Sentinel’s revenue, but of course, the subscriptions play an important part as well. Not having the ad revenue made it so that printing was not in the budget. It was a hard decision for Joe, but a necessary one to consider the longevity of the well-being of the paper.
Having our loyal readers be as concerned as they were about either not getting their paper, or whether or not we would survive, warmed our hearts. We still took phone calls whenever we were in the office, and I enjoyed chatting with some of my readers, and I think they enjoyed the one-on-one time they got to speak with me as well.
Throughout the weeks, I have still been in the office on Mondays and Tuesdays (even when we were closed) to put together pages online and try to continue my “norm,” or attempt to come close to it. I have really been missing my chamber meetings and my commissioners meetings and was sad to hear of Ed Bustin passing.
I also have been working on my knowledge of our website and how to operate it. At my previous job, I was spoiled and basically had a lot of “online” issues resolved by a co-worker, or didn’t have to do them myself. My goal is to get more familiar with our website and utilize it as much as possible. Thank you to Tami Betune for some of the training.
At home, I not only have become mom and wife, but also teacher. It has been a little difficult to help my son, Harrison, with his school work, and keep him on a routine throughout these past weeks. I about pulled my hair out trying to “quarantine” my 1 1/2 year-old-daughter, Savannah, whose favorite new past time is screaming at different pitches. I was by myself too, as their dad was working as an essential worker in Williamsport.
Though quarantine definitely had its downs, it did have some perks for us too.
“I spent a lot of time with my son that I normally wouldn’t have while working a full week,” said Joe.
I agree with him. I have really enjoyed being home with my munchkins and having that opportunity.
Now that I have filled you in on what’s new with us, let’s hear from you, our readers! What have you been up to? Have you recently finished or started a project you have been holding off for “when you have more time?”
We have missed you! Fill us in! Message us on Facebook, send us photos, email us, whatever you’d like to do! We miss you and are glad to be back in communication.
Our office is also back up and running Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
