How about having, “the innocence of a child?” Do you remember? There was a certain freedom, peace and security in it, wasn’t there? We trusted those who were over us and believed what they said usually without question. They loved us and we trusted them because we knew that they wanted to protect us and had OUR best interest at heart. We came with open hearts and minds and were taken care of. Remember? Do you sometimes want to go back there?
Well God wants you to become a child again. Really! He wants us to seek Him with the openness and vulnerability of a 5 year old. I am not saying that we should “check our brains at the door” and not investigate His reality, (the more you know, the more you’ll KNOW). But from a heart and spiritual angle, He wants us to approach Him with complete trust, openness and real faith. Like a 5 year old. Jesus said in Mark 10:15, “I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Seems clear enough, doesn’t it? But just like the freedom and security we had when we were little, we receive it also as God’s child. “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”, (John 1:12). You have the right to become God’s child, if... Something to think about…
Maybe you can relate to this. A pastor needed a lawn mower and saw one for sale along the road. He stopped and as he was looking it over, a teenager came out from the house. “Does it run?”, asked the pastor. “It sure does”, replied the teen. “Give it a pull.” The pastor pulled the cord few times, but could not get it started. “I thought you said it ran” said the pastor. “It does but you have to curse at it”, the young salesman answered. “I can’t do that, I am a pastor and I gave up cursing years ago!” To which the teenager replied, “Oh I don’t know, keep pulling on that; I bet it will come back to you.”
