Yes, it has been a cold winter, but that is all part of an outdoor adventure program like Trail Life. While the older boys were cabin-camping, the younger Trailmen went on a field trip to the Corning Museum of Glass where they learned the history, manufacturing and uses of glass. They also got to do something you can't do in Bradford County: ride an escalator!
The older boys stayed at a Cabin in the Loyalsock State Forest and learned how wood can keep you warm twice: Once by cutting it and again by burning it! They also practiced their orienteering skills by finding "Porcupine Rocks" after being only shown where it is on a map. On Sunday morning the Trailmen braved the frigid weather and hiked miles (in the snow, uphill both ways...) to attend Worship Service at a lodge with the Canton Mennonite Church.
Next winter we can try for a winter camp in tents, but first we need to get some tents and other equipment. If you want to help out, buy tickets to the March 28th Award Banquet at New Life Church in Canton. They are for sale at: C.A. Thrush Insurance, Hoover's Hardware, Armenia Mountain Footwear, Barnstead Bulk Goods, Jim's Sporting Goods and the Canton Independent Sentinel.
Trail Life is a K-12 Christian based program that centers on outdoor experiences that build a young man’s skills and allow him to grow on a personal level and as a role model and leader for his peers. Meetings are held the first three Thursdays of the month at The Endless Mts. Mission Center in West Burlington from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, with the younger boys dismissing at 7:30. There is a weekend activity each month. If you want to get in on the adventure, contact Jeff Deutschle, Troopmaster, 570-673-4275 or email at [email protected].
