It is critical that our Judge is someone with experience and knowledge of our county and systems. Friend and colleague, Attorney Frank Niemiec, states, “As Judge, Alan will listen to each case with an open mind, apply the relevant law and past precedent and render a fair, decisive decision based upon the facts.”
Some of Attorney Alan Shaw’s Accomplishments Include:
• Shaw is currently in private practice with the firm of Landy and Landy in Sayre, PA
• Shaw grew up in Towanda and graduated from Towanda High School in 1976.
• He earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Economics from Wilkes University in 1980 and a Master’s in Business Administration from Wilkes University in 1982 before attending Penn State Dickinson School of Law from which he earned his law degree in 1987.
• After graduating from law school, Shaw returned to Bradford County, first practicing in Troy with the firm of Owlett and Lewis, which took over the practice of the late Duane VanNoy,.
• He currently holds licenses to practice law in both the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and New York State.
• Shaw has taught paralegal courses for Penn State in the areas of, including but not limited to, family law, real estate, wills, estates and trusts, and business law classes at Lackawanna College.
• He has served a number of Boroughs and Townships as solicitor.
• Shaw has served the community and been involved in public service. He was a Director of North Penn Legal Services and served as its Vice President.
• He is a former member of the Troy Lions Club where he served as its secretary, and now is a member of the Sayre-Athens Lions Club, where he currently serves as Treasurer, and as past President.
• He has been an active Mason as a member of Union Lodge No. 108 Free and Accepted Mason in Towanda where he was recently elected to serve as its Worshipful Master for the second time.
• He is also active in the First Presbyterian Church in Towanda where he is an elder, and served on its session.
Shaw practices in many areas of the law, including but not limited to, civil litigation, personal injury matters, insurance defense, criminal cases, real estate, oil and gas matters, estate planning and family law, including adoptions, divorce, child custody, child support matters, which is the broad scope of the types of cases which will come before the newly-elected judge.
“Twice the Bradford County Bar has chosen me as one of the most qualified candidates to be judge in this county,” states Shaw.
Shaw lives in Towanda with his wife, Karen, and has two step-children, Heidi Krise, who is married to Scott and lives in Ridgebury with their two children, Dylan and Dustin; and Joel Dietz, who is married to Erin and lives in Sayre with their children, Alexis, Ethan, Ayla and Carson.
