In addition to his wife he is survived by his son Daniel Martinell of Tannersville, and his daughters, Becky (Cliff) Rigby of Sylvania and Tara Martinell of Tannersville, a step-grandson, LCpl Rob Rigby of Camp Lejeune, NC, a step-granddaughter, Kelly Rigby of Wisconsin and brother Ronald (Judith) Martinell of Scotrun, PA, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jeffrey Martinell, 71, Troy and formerly Tannersville, PA, died on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at home. He was the husband of Bonnie (Belcher) Martinell with whom he shared 50 years of marriage with on October 14, 2017. He was the son of the late Louis and Helen (Matzoni) Martinell of Scotrun, PA. Born in Brooklyn on February 19, 1946, his parents moved to Scotrun in 1947. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Edwina Murphy, 81, Canton, PA passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Williamsport Hospital. Edwina, “Winnie” to family and friends, was born in Williamsport October 27, 1936. She was a daughter of the late William Glenn Hartline and Edith M. (Sellinger) Jackson. After graduation from Williamsport High School, Winnie attended beauty school but she found her calling as the owner and operator of a pet store in Williamsport and later a store in Canton. She also enjoyed helping with the family owned animal kennels. Winnie was a talented crafter and liked to make jewelry, homemade candies and she collected all types of bells. On Wednesday, October 11th, 2017, Candy Jo (Moyer) Brown passed away, surrounded by her loving family at her Mansfield residence, following a courageous battle with a debilitating illness. She was 59 years of age. Born July 21st, 1958 in Troy, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Iona (Fitzwater) Moyer. Candy was always interested in helping others, so as an adult she pursued a career in health care, earning her CAN degree. She had been employed at Martha Lloyd Services for many years, and later with ELCOR in Horse-heads, NY, retiring in 2003. Candy enjoyed doing craft work, which she offered for sale at various local festivals. She was also an expert at crocheting . She enjoyed fishing, was an avid Steelers fan and owned an extensive collection of teddy bears. Her family was of paramount importance, especially her husband, children, grandchildren and her faithful canine companion, Rudy. She was in love with life itself. Candy was also a woman of faith, and was an active member of the Austinville Union Church. Kenneth W. Mott, age 74, of Columbia Cross Roads passed away peacefully in his own home on Friday, October 6, 2017 surrounded by his family and close friends.
Ken was born in Snedekerville, PA on September 3, 1943 son of the late Franklin and Myrtle (Brackman) Mott. He was a graduate of Troy High School where he was active in FFA during his school years. Ken retired from Toshiba where he worked in the Quality Control Department he enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Ken also raised hens and sold eggs at his stand “Ken’s Hens”. He was a member and attended the Victory Church in Troy and loved the moments he spent with his family and friends. Surviving are his children, Beth Slaughter of Columbia Cross Roads, Michael Mott of Troy whom gave exceptional care to their dad in his final years and Kevin Mott of Neunan Georgia, six grandchildren, Daryn, Alan, Brittany, Kevin, Jr., Theressa and Erica, a brother and sister-in-law, William (Joanne) Mott of South Carolina, sister and brother-in-law, Doris (Harold) Sergeant of Converse, Texas, several, nieces, nephews and cousins. David Mark McBratney, Sr. 72, West Burlington, PA went home to be with his Lord Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Bradford County Manor after a long battle Multiple Sclerosis.
He was the loving husband of Charlotte Ann (Boris) McBratney. The couple married December 16, 1967 and had almost 50 years together. David was born on October 27, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Joseph H. McBratney, Sr. and Agnes (Mark) McBratney. He was a US Air Force veteran serving his country in the Vietnam War. David was a plumber by trade. David was a member of the First Baptist Church of Troy and enjoyed singing in the choir. He enjoyed canoeing, bicycling where sometimes he biked 50 miles to and from work, and doing ventriloquism where he would illustrate God’s word through “Gospel Magic”. David was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians for over 25 years and was awarded the “Order of Merlin” for his 25 years of membership. While as a resident of the Bradford County Manor he was active as a volunteer and was past president of the Resident Council. Melvia M. (McKerrow) DeWalt, 89, Columbia Cross Roads, passed away August 2, 2017 at Bradford County Manor.
She was born May 13, 1928 in Columbia Cross Roads to the late Ernest and Lillie (Miller) McKerrow. Growing up in Columbia Cross Roads, she was the youngest of eleven children. She lost her mother at the age of twelve and became the lady of the house with two brothers and father at home. Melvia was a 1947 graduate of Troy High and soon after she lost her father in 1948. She met her future husband on a blind date and later married Charles F. DeWalt on Oct. 24, 1948. They purchased a farm in Rummerfield, PA. There she worked at her husband’s side milking cows, working the fields, and cutting fire wood. She was a member of the Herrickville Church and helped with dinners at the fire hall. Around this time they started a family. They thought factory life would be an easier way of life so they sold the farm and rented a house in Kesslersrville, PA. Later, they bought a house in Moorestown, PA. There they became members of the Salem United Methodist Church. Melvia was an active member of the church’s women’s group which put on dinners and fundraisers. Also, she was an active member of the Moorestown School PTA and advocate of getting a reading program in the school. When her husband was in the VA hospital for almost a year in 1962-1963, she took a job in a blouse factory to pay the bills. In 1967 they moved the family to Columbia Cross Roads, where Melvia became an active member of her childhood church. She helped wherever God called like cleaning the church, teaching Sunday School, putting dinners together, and clubs. She was a member of the UMW and served as president in the later years. Linda Lee Cathers Mackie, 71, of North Towanda, Pa., passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 16, 2017 with her family by her side, after a three year battle with cancer.
Linda was born in East Stroudsburg, Pa. on Feb. 20, 1946, daughter of the late W. Edgar Cathers Jr. and Helen G. Replogle Cathers. She graduated from Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, PA, with the class of 1964. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Millersville University in 1968. On June 8, 1968, Linda married Alan R. Mackie at the Bala Cynwyd United Methodist Church where her father was the pastor. The couple then moved to Towanda to make their home. Linda taught school for the Athens School District for a year and then taught in the Towanda Middle School for several years until she resigned to raise her two boys, becoming active in the Towanda Parent-Teachers Group. She later returned to become a long term substitute for over a decade in the Towanda Area School District. The last few years of her teaching career were at the Son-Shine Christian School in Canton, Pa., until her retirement in 2000. On the morning of Saturday, July 1st, 2017, David Martin McWilliams of Canton passed away quietly at his residence. He was 62 years of age.
Born November 4th, 1954 in Troy he was the son of Robert H. and Jean (Machmer) McWilliams. Throughout his working life Dave was a teacher of Special Education, and more recently Alternative Education, in Canton, Woodbridge VA and Towanda. His remarkable career spanned four decades and was about to enter its forty-first year of service. Dave was an avid hunter and trapper. He had a great love for the outdoors, especially Armenia Mountain where he was raised. Each day he would walk from his home just north of Canton to Lamb’s Lookout and back. He also was a great lover of sports and coached basketball in Canton, Woodbridge and Towanda. Dave was married to the former Sandy Seelye and together they raised two sons and celebrated 39 years together June 17th of this year. Dave’s positive impact on young people extended beyond those in his classroom. He had a knack for connecting with people of all ages, and a generous heart for helping those less fortunate. Richard “Dick” Morgan, 80, of Canton, passed away May 18, 2017. Memorial services will be held at the Ward Methodist Church, Saturday, July 1 at 1 p.m. We will celebrate his life with some of Dick’s favorites fudges and desserts afterward to remember his sweet tooth and tell our favorite stories about him.
Jerome L. "Jerry" Mase, 69, passed away Monday, June 26, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer at the Bath VA Medical Center.
He was born June 3, 1948 to Thelma (Sechrist) and Milton Mase. Jerry graduated from Southside High School then enlisted into the US Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam from 1968-1969, serving with the CoG, 2nd Bn, 5th Marine Regt, 1st Marine Division. Upon his return he attended BOCES for machinist training. He worked for several machine shops around the area and retired in 1996. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Donna (Spencer) Mase; daughter, Laurie (Vince) Haduck; sons, Steven Moretz and Toby Mase; grandchildren, Andrew, Alexander, Colby and Amber; great grandchildren, Aubriella, Mason and Liam; brothers, James (Kurina) Mase, John (Janet) Mase and Jeffery (Brenda) Mase; sisters, Jackie (Bucky) Peel and Joy (Ermen) Paulo; sisters in law, Leatrice (Skip) Caseman and Deborah (Jeffery) Wilson; along with several nieces and nephews. |
