Canton FFA Fruit Sale is on through October 29. The money is needed when ordering and the fruit will be available for pick-up behind the high school on or around November 17th. Come one, come all to the FFA Alumni meeting which is being held in Room 122 of the Canton High School next Monday, 6:30 p.m.
At this meeting, election of officers will be held. Please enter in rear of the science wing of the high school. Remember, this is open to ALL whether you were a former FFA member or never have been one, but are interested in dealing with agriculture. Recently, the students who are part of the Canton High School FFA toured the Canton Sewer Plant.
The tour was given by Al Hess and the students learned about the process of cleaning the water and where the "sludge" goes and how it can be used by farmers around the area. On Friday, the Bradford County Envirothon was held at the Mount Pisgah County Park where 17 teams of students were tested on their knowledge in the areas of forestry, soils, aquatics, wildlife, and urban forestry.
Troy once again took first place at the event, which was followed by Northeast Bradford, two teams from North Rome Christian School, then Troy and sixth place was a team from Canton. Those who placed in the top 6 places received a variety of prizes and awards. Nick Martin, Casey Baxter, Tricia Hojnowski, Dawn Zimmerman, and MaKenna Martin of Troy will represent Bradford County at the 2015 PA Envirothon which will be held at the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown and Windber Recreation Park. The Bradford County FFA recently held its county banquet where students are recognized for their year long successes. Members of the Canton FFA that participated in the regional public speaking and tractor driving Career Development Events at Penn Tech in Williamsport. Ben Engel Participated in the Safe Tractor Driving CDE where he placed first at the county event and fourth at the regional event and will move on to the state competition in June. Victoria, Stacy, and Shayla placed first through third respectively and Rachel placed fourth at the county event, allowing them to participate in the regional competition. On Good Friday, when most students were at home sleeping, a few FFA members from Troy and Canton FFA chapters ventured out in the field with Rich Gulyas, Senior Operations Analyst of SWN Production Company, LLC.
Rich in his job at Southwestern analyzes soils, plant and animal species, and makes recommendations back to the company on any environmental concerns related to the operations. On his and the students day off, he spent three hours touring a property with the students and helping them prepare for the county envirothon which is to be held on May 8th. The group visited 4 different soil pits, a wetland, and various woodlots. |
