Yes, it has been a cold winter, but that is all part of an outdoor adventure program like Trail Life. While the older boys were cabin-camping, the younger Trailmen went on a field trip to the Corning Museum of Glass where they learned the history, manufacturing and uses of glass. They also got to do something you can't do in Bradford County: ride an escalator! ![]() The Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has established an annual $1,000 nursing scholarship that is awarded to a nursing student enrolled in the Northern Tier Career Center’s Practical Nursing Program in Towanda. This year, the Auxiliary is pleased to award two scholarships to deserving students. Applicants for the scholarship must be a resident of Bradford or Sullivan County and must have completed one semester of the nursing program. The Oldroyd Brass Quintet is coming to Troy on Saturday April 11th to present a concert at the First Presbyterian Church of Troy at 7PM. The Quintet will be performing master works of the brass quintet ranging from classical to Latin and Dixieland. The concert will be FREE, but donations will be accepted to benefit the town band. Sponsors for the concert include The Troy Rotary Club, The Troy Town Band and a Generous Patron of Performing Arts in the Troy Area.
![]() The weekly Lenten Luncheons, sponsored by the Canton Area Ministerium Association continued on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. This week was hosted by the Lighthouse of Faith church. The menu was baked ziti, salad, rolls and dessert. Seventy-one people listened to the meditation provided by Mark Burlingame. He spoke on John 10 and the Good Shepherd. He reminded us that we are never out of God’s sight, even if we can’t see Him. We need to follow and obey without fear.
![]() Thanks to a generous $24,495 gift from the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, patients in the hospital have 35 beautiful new bedside 14-inch flat panel LED televisions to enjoy. For extra convenience, the TVs are mounted on extendable and retractable arms. Proudly displaying one of the new TVs include Auxiliary members, back row, from left, Dottie Kovalik, Bennita Butts, Colleen Close, Kathie Becker and Sally Rohrer. Middle row, Sharon Brutzman, Susie Nichols, Mary Rose Shaylor (new Auxiliary Board member) Kay Fulmer, Esther Lewis, and Shannon Bolles, nurse manager. Front row, Sharon Mueller (new Board member) Terri Latocha and Marguerite Shaner, Auxiliary president. “We very much appreciate this generous gift from the Auxiliary. Patients are really pleased with the quality and convenience of the new TVs,” says Shannon Bolles, nurse manager. The Ward Township Board of Supervisors held its March meeting with Chairman Ed Sheaffer and Supervisors Lloyd Ayres and James Tompkins, Road Foreman Teddy Seachrist and Secretary Carol Morgan and an audience of seven. The meeting had been postponed for one week due to adverse weather.
The minutes of the February meeting were approved and the Treasurer’s report approved with these balances: General checking, $51,332.75; Act 13 Checking, $18,603.26; Money Market, $79,396.48; State Fund, $64,526.83; Act 13 Money Market, $807,489.71; Capitol Fund CD, $120,043,74. The Bradford County Library presents the annual awards ceremony for the Write Your Own Book contest, Saturday, March 28, at 2:00 p.m. This year's special guest lecturer is author Laura Wiess, discussing the art of writing.
Northern Tier Career Center Skills USA members attended the District 6 Skills USA Competitions February 6th at Pennsylvania College of Technology and February 12th at NTCC. District 6 consists of twelve schools: Central Mountain High School, Columbia-Montour AVTS, Lycoming County Career and Technology Center, NTCC, Northumberland County Career and Technology Center, SUN Career and Technology Center, Schuylkill Technology Centers – North and South, Wellsboro High School, Williamsport High School, Milton High School and Pennsylvania College of Technology.
