The weekly Lenten Luncheons, sponsored by the Canton Area Ministerium Association continued on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. This week was hosted by the Tri-County Parish. Seventy people were served a lunch of turkey noodle soup, sandwiches and assorted cakes. Rev. Jerry Schmidt gave the meditation. Speaking on Ezekiel 47 and John 5:1-6 he spoke about living water and healing. Jesus knows our human needs and sustains our lives every day. |
![]() Two adult students have completed training requirements and passed the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Motor Vehicle Association drivers test to earn their Commercial Driver’s License. James Havard and John Stead successfully earned their CDL Class A license through training received at the Northern Tier Career Center. In February 2015 the Canton Borough Street Department handled these tasks:
• Plowed snow, salted and cindered • Shoveled sidewalks/bridges • Called Bristol’s for clean up The Canton Township Board of Supervisors held its March meeting with Chairman Gary Ferguson, Supervisors Jasper Smith and Mark McMurray, Secretary Elnor Blaney, Road Foreman Bob Petrowski, Tax Collector Michelle Deeghan, and EMC Ray Miller and an audience of four.
The minutes of the February meeting were approved. "by the bridge" farm, located just outside of Monroeton, is now accepting new and returning members for the 2015 growing season for their CSA/Farm Shares.
Now in its sixth season, "by the bridge" farm is accepting new members for a Full Farm Share and a Half Farm Share. All members will recieve a share of the bounty of vegetables, herbs and flowers grown right on the farm by our family, for your family. ![]() The Heritage Garden Club of Troy met on Monday, March 2 at the Baptist Church. Ten members were in attendance. President Barb Andrus opened the meeting by leading the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. A wide range of plans were discussed for the up-coming year. Gail McMahon demonstrated how to make the intricate snowflakes that will be used to decorate the State of the Art exhibit at the State Farm Insurance building in Troy. McMahon is chair of the event which will be held in December. Member Carol Ulmer displayed some of the beautiful snowflakes she had made and commented on how fun they were to make. Mary Alice displayed a pretty little bird ornament she had made from a milkweed pod. Missoula Children's Theatre a Big Success Great Job by Area Students in Play "The Jungle Book"3/12/2015
The Missoula Children's Theatre's performance of the "Jungle Book" was presented in the Nelle Black Westgate Auditorium on February 28. Kelsey Dowling, Manager of the Rialto Theatre, thanked Glen and Barb Landis for hosting the Missoula staff, and acknowledged the sponsors: Ingersoll-Rand Federal Credit Union, Cuz, Milky Way Farms, Canton Area Chamber of Commerce, Kim's Salon, First Citizens Community Bank, Schoonover Plumbing and Heating, Baldwin's Hardware and Gift Shop, Endless Mt. Brace and Mobility, Morse and Kleese Funeral Home, Inc, United Way, Canton Independent-Sentinel, Lepley Engelman and Yaw, Kelley's Creekside Restaurant, Brann, Williams, Caldwell, and Sheetz; Thompson Sports and Apparel, Jim's Sporting Goods, Sweet Tooth of Canton, Pro Care, Canton Foundation; and thanked the employees of the school district, and the Advisory Board for all their help to make this production a success.
See Gallery for photos After cancelling the VIA meetings for January and February because of weather issues and illness, eight members of the Village Improvement Association met at the Milky Way Restaurant for their March meeting.
The program for March was to have been John Kern demonstrating his wood carving skills, but since he was unable to, members plan to have Mr. Kern visit another time. Senior Regent Darlene MacDonald opened the March 9 meeting of the Canton Women of the Moose #981 with nine members and four visitors present.
Chairperson for Educational Advancement, Nichole Ambruch, had a group of ladies from the Canton Pro-Care office speak. They talked about the different services they offer and some of the treatments they have used in the past. Promoting the arts and humanities is an important part of Rekindle the Spirit’s mission and with that in mind, the Arts & Humanities committee this year is providing a wide variety of programs and activities. All activities will be held at the beautiful Manley-Bohlayer Farm unless otherwise stated. The farm is located in the Endless Mountains at 141 East Canton Cross Road just off Route 414 and 3 miles east of Canton PA. Mark your calendars and join us!
