Promoting the arts and humanities is an important part of Rekindle the Spirit’s mission and with that in mind, the Arts & Humanities committee this year is providing a wide variety of programs and activities. All activities will be held at the beautiful Manley-Bohlayer Farm unless otherwise stated. The farm is located in the Endless Mountains at 141 East Canton Cross Road just off Route 414 and 3 miles east of Canton PA. Do you sometimes think food labels are confusing and hard to understand? Memorial Hospital’s Registered Dietitian, Susan White, will be leading small group tours inside the Tops Friendly Market located in the Bradford Town Center, Wysox, on March 26 and 30, at 10:30 a.m. Participants will gain hands-on experience on how to make healthy food choices throughout the grocery store. It’s a great place to learn and discover new food options. You will explore the supermarket aisles with Sue who will help you decipher food labels, assist you in making health choices for you and your family and she will answer your questions. ![]() At the Feb. 11 meeting of the Endless Mountains Heritage Region (EMHR), the executive director provided a progress report for the 2015 Project Review Committee. Two EMHR staff members and four board members worked to select projects for inclusion in the EMHR Round 21 DCNR partnership. It is estimated that approximately $70,000 will be allocated to the region by DCNR , which will in turn be disbursed by EMHR to grant applicants. If expected funding is approved by DCNR, Laceyville's Oldest House stands to be the big winner in 2016 of upwards to $30,000 for rehabilitation and stabilization of the centuries old structure. Previously, EMHR helped with funding to provide a new roof for The Oldest House, an interpretive and education site at the western end of Wyoming County. ![]() The Northeast Region of the PA Game Commission has gained six new Wildlife Conservation Officers. The officers are recent graduates of the 30th cadet class of the Game Commission’s Ross Leffler School of Conservation in Harrisburg. Their hometowns and their new assignments are: Blake Barth, Lock Haven (western Bradford Co); Michael College, Altoona (Montour Co); Michael Goodenow Jr., Athens (northeastern Bradford Co); Eric Kelly,Clifton Township (southeastern Bradford Co); Benjamin Rebuck, Sunbury (southern Susquehanna Co; and Jared Turner, Bristol (northern Lackawanna Co). ![]() Wm. Alan Shaw filed his nomination petition for Judge of Bradford County Court of Common Pleas at the Pennsylvania Department of State this week. Attorney Shaw was required to obtain at least 250 signatures to be eligible to be placed on the ballot. Shaw obtained more than enough signatures from Bradford County voters to be placed on both the Republican and Democratic ballots for the May 19, 2015 primary election. Next, Attorney Shaw will be given the opportunity to draw a number to determine his position on the primary ballot. The candidate who draws the lower number receives the higher position on the primary ballot. Attorney Shaw has more than 27 years of experience in law practice. He currently practices law at Landy & Rossettie (formerly Landy & Landy). Alan’s long-time colleague, Attorney Joseph Landy, states, “Alan has always been a diligent and fair-minded lawyer. She was born March 26, 1923 in Towanda, the daughter of Lawrence and Helen Naomi Crandell Pease. She has an older brother William, Binghamton, NY, and recently lost her sister, Naomi Pease. Helen served as Regent of the DAR, President of the Canton Music Club, the BPW, and was Woman of the Year for the VIA. She also directed the Cherub Choir at the Canton Church of Christ for many years, and entertained locals with the Late Bloomers, and later enjoyed membership in the Red Hatters. Sunday, March 22nd at 2:00 pm, St. Michael Parish will host a Lenten Penance Service followed by individual Confessions in St. Michael Church, Canton. Several priests from the area will be available to hear Confessions. This is an excellent opportunity for all Catholics to make their Easter duty and for any Catholics who have been away from the Church to come home. People of all religions are invited to attend this celebration of God’s mercy in Christ Jesus.
