The Penn State Master Gardeners of Bradford County announce that Julianne Schieffer, Urban Forester in Montgomery County, will deliver the keynote address at the 10th Annual Endless Mountains Gardening Day, Saturday, April 18th. Her topic: ‘Top 10 Trees & Shrubs for Wildlife’, demonstrates why native plants, which are well suited to survive and usually require little maintenance, are welcomed by wildlife. Everyone needs to eat including birds and wild animals and native shrubs and trees provide shelter, foliage, nectar, pollen, berries, seeds, and nuts as well as a place to raise their young and thrive. Learn how landscaping can be multi-purpose, beautifying the home and helping with healthy sustainable habitats.
![]() March 24 was National Ag Day. Bradford/Sullivan County Farm Bureau celebrated this by giving the first baby born some presents. Congratulations to Mason Charles Earle born on March 25 at 2:32 PM. He weighed in at 7 lbs. 11oz. and 20.5 inches long. Pictured here in front are mother Cierra Bogulaw holding Mason. The Canton Area Chamber of Commerce held its April meeting at First Citizens Community Bank. President Eric Schoonover conducted the meeting.
Members reported activities: Canton Borough is working on a list of streets to be paved and is accepting lifeguard applications. A draft of a rental inspection ordinance is at the Borough office and is available for review by landlords. The Borough is developing a logo for its website. The Shade Tree Commission has scheduled some events, including a clean-up at Morse Park. ![]() Bradford/Sullivan County Farm Bureau celebrated National Ag Day on March 26. Barbara Warburton and Kathy Yoachim placed the 2014 American Farm Bureau Book of the Year titled THE BEEMAN byLaurie Krebs and Valerie Cis in numerous elementary schools throughout the county. Please contact the Sentinel office, 570-673-5151 with information. On March 16 the Music Club met at the Canton Ecumenical Church. They opened the program with "Pennsylvania" followed by the Hymn of the Month, "America the Beautiful." Ken Robertson was in charge of the program with the theme was Easter. Ken sang a solo "Who Killed Jesus". The entire group sang, other hymns: "Christ the Lord is Risen Today", "Up From the Grave," "Crown Him With Many Crowns," and "He Lives." Delicious refreshments were served by Reba Shepard and Joyce Castle. The next meeting will be Youth in Music, April 20 at the Church of Christ, (Disciples of Christ), Canton. Note change of time: 7:30 p.m. The WOTM #981 Special Ways and Means meeting was held on April 6 with fifteen members present and one visitor.
