Monday, April 6, a PennDOT bridge crew in Bradford County began a bridge deck replacement project on Route 3012 (Grover Road), 0.5 miles east of Grover in Canton Township.

On Saturday, April 25, Granville Center Church of Christ will be having a clothing giveaway in the church fellowship hall from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Clothing donations can be dropped off at the church Wednesday-Friday 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. For more information, call the church at 570-364-5110. On April 30 at 7 pm Joe Cavallaro's Dixieland Jazz Band will be at the Rialto Theatre as part of "Thursdays at the Rialto."
Joe Cavallaro's Dixieland Jazz Band came into being a little over 31 years ago and they've been playing throughout the region ever since. Over the years the Band has performed at the Clemens Center in Elmira, sharing the billing for such stars as AI Hirt, Roy Clark, Harry Belafonte & Sam Butera. The Band also had the honor of playing at the inauguration of NY Gov. George Pataki. Four members from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Athens and Sheshequin (UUCAS) recently attended District Assembly in Niagara Falls, N.Y. on March 27-28. It began with a lecture on Friday night with Rev. Tom Chulack, former executive director of the St. Lawrence District. His message was "the whole is greater than the sum of the parts". SAVE THE DATE: This year’s Benevolence Rummage Sale is set to take place at Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church on May 1 and 2. Drop off days for donations will be Tuesday and Wednesday, April 28 and 29, from 9am-6pm. Look for further details as the sale date approaches.

A special meeting of the BCRC was recently called by the chairman to give those present (or by proxy) the opportunity to vote on the issue of county wide candidate endorsements for the May 19, 2015 primary election. The Guthrie Troy Community Hospital Auxiliary is now holding its annual Mother’s Day hanging flower basket sale. Flowers can be ordered directly from the hospital gift shop or by calling 570-297-9255. The gift shop is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Troy TOPS #986 met on April 6th at the Troy Vets Club with fourteen members weighing in.
Total loss was 9 1/2 pounds for TOPS and 1/2 pound for KOPS. There were three turtles. Members who lost or turtled over the holiday earned a rose. Top TOPS members were Velma and Joyce and top KOPS member was Marilyn. Jarvis Burlingame retired in February as Troy Police Chief and at the March meeting of Troy Borough Council he was presented with plaques, gifts, and a special cake in recognition of his 42 years of police work. In addition to Council and the regular visitors, there were about 40 guests on hand to express best wishes to Mr. Burlingame.
Chief Burlingame began his police career in Troy in 1974, where he served until 1986, when he went to the Athens Police Department,then to Canton in 1996, returning to Troy in 1999. He became Chief in August 2012. |
