The Northeast Region of the Pennsylvania Game Commission is seeking information concerning a break-in and burglary that occurred at the game lands maintenance building located on State Game Lands 172 along Fisk Road, Wilmot Township, Wyalusing, Bradford County. The burglary occurred between the hours of 4:30 p.m. on 8/20 and 5:30 a.m. on 8/21. Items taken include three Stihl chainsaws, three Jonsered chainsaws, one Stihl leaf blower, one Millermatic Mig welder, and one Craftsmen socket set. On Saturday, August 8th a secret super hero meeting was held. Invitees received a summons to the meeting after accomplishing their mission of reading at least 10 hours during Allen F. Pierce Free Library, Bradford County Library, and Monroeton Public Library’s summer reading program.
A total of 54 super readers earned an invitation to this event. The heroes were briefed about everyday heroes who rescue animals, raise bunnies as pets using their hair to create super soft garments, and raise nutritious, organic food for us to consume for the energy needed to continue their heroic work. The Farmhands Bluegrass Quartet is coming to perform at a Concert on the Green in East Smithfield, PA on August 22, at 6 p.m. This award-winning bluegrass gospel band from Nashville, TN, will share their ministry at a concert on the green, weather permitting, in downtown East Smithfield, PA. The Farm Hands Bluegrass Quartet was recently awarded the 2015 Bluegrass Gospel Band and Entertainer of the Year awards. The Farm Hands are one of the most exciting and talented bands in bluegrass music. The group features 4 award winning singers, musicians and songwriters, including two long time veterans of Nashville's Grand Ole Opry. American Red Cross volunteers are assisting 4 adults and who have been displaced by a fire happening this evening in the first block of Jordin Lane in Granville Summit (Canton) (Bradford County). The Red Cross is providing food and clothing and will follow-up with the family to determine any additional disaster needs. The monthly book discussion at the Bradford County Library, 1pm Tuesday, August 18, will feature historical fiction set in WWI and WWII . Positive reader response to books read previously prompted this month’s selection of ‘Letters from Skye’ by Jessica Brockmole. This novel of letters begins with a fan letter from an American to a poet in Scotland and continues with their sharing books and feelings. In 1940 at the beginning of WWII, the poet’s daughter falls in love with a pilot in the RAF and her mother warns her of the risks of long distance relationships. The novel was listed as one of the Best Books of 2014 by Publisher’s Weekly.
