The June 18 meeting of the Troy Lions Club at the Troy Vets Club was a busy one. The Lions recognized Kelsey Bristol, Troy High School athlete. A total of 440 Mansfield University students have been named to the spring 2015 semester. To be named to the Dean's list, a student must attend full-time and earn at least a 3.5 GPA. A total of 149 Mansfield University students have been named to the spring 2015 President's List.
To be named to the President's List, a student must attend the university full-time and attain a 4.0 QPA for the semester. Keystone College celebrated its 144th commencement during ceremonies at the Pavilion at Montage, Scranton, on Saturday, May 16. Degrees were conferred upon 349 students. Keystone graduates Dr. Lloyd H. Michael ’62 and his wife Barbara Ann Smith Michael ’62 provided the keynote address and Keystone President Dr. David L. Coppola presided over the ceremony. Dr. Coppola and Dr. Karen K. Yarrish, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college, conferred the degrees to the graduates. The Heritage Garden Club of Troy met on Monday, June 1 at Charlotte Lyon’s home. Ten members and one guest, Heather Loomis were in attendance. President Barb Andrus opened the meeting by thanking Charlotte Lyon for hosting and introducing Joie and Bill Brasington who gave a talk about what preventative measures should be taken to make you safe when working in the garden as well as Joie’s experience living with Lyme disease. Joie pointed out that as gardeners we have all kinds of risks. ![]() Troy Fair Court and those vying to become the 2015 Troy Fair Queen. Sitting on the front loader are in the front, Courtney Bennett, from Towanda and Troy Fair Alternate, Elsie Jerzak. Standing are Troy Fair Queen, Mikayla Kuhlman, and Emily Elsbree, Sayre. Seating on the left is Tricia Hojnowski; in the driver's seat, Hailey Fisher, LeRaysville and Sara Craig, current Fair Queen Alternate. Missing from the photo but vying for this year's title is Victoria Pazzaglia, Columbia Crossroads. More details about the event will be in the next edition of his newspaper. The Queen Pageant will take place on July 26. Everyone is welcome to attend. The Troy Town Band will present the first of two Summer Concerts on Thursday, June 25 at 7 pm at the Troy Area High School Memorial Auditorium. The band will be under the direction of Mr. Robert Oldroyd.
The Troy Town Band features local musicians who present several concerts for the community throughout the year. The program for the June 25 concert is titled “re-Union,” and will feature works of the North during the Civil War and the Soviet Union around the time of WWII. The concert will be followed by an ice cream social, sponsored by the businesses of the Greater Troy Area. The public is cordially invited to this free event. Mansfield University student Haley Fitzwater of Troy was awarded the Stephen and Sandy Sheller Scholarship for 2014-15 academic year. The scholarship, administered by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) Foundation, is awarded to a full-time PASSHE student who is a resident of Pennsylvania pursuing a degree leading to a career in law, art therapy or social services. The student must also have earned 60 college credits maintaining a 3.5 GPA or better. Danielle Newman of Troy was one of ten Mansfield University students who were awarded the Highmark Healthcare Scholarship for Rising Juniors for the 2014-15 academic year. The scholarship, administered by the PA State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) Foundation, is awarded to a full-time PASSHE student who is a resident of PA pursuing a degree in a healthcare profession The student must also have earned and passed 60 college credits and show academic promise by maintaining a 3.0 GPA or better. |
